The perfect Gin and Tonic

gandtMy key to a perfect G&T:  Hendricks and a slice of cucumber!  My good friend, Emily, taught me that.   I tried my best to enjoy them before, but realized I just couldn’t get past the smell of rubbing alcohol in other gins.

However, I will say it’s always good to give things another go, so over the weekend I tried a G&T using Tanquerey and it wasn’t all that bad.  But don’t worry Hendricks, I’ll always remain faithful to you.

They are very easy to make, but should you want the classic cocktail recipe here’s a great one.

And here’s a list of a few places in San Francisco to visit that I’ve heard have great gin cocktails (and the ones I’d try)…

Absinthe (Corpse Reviver #12)

Alembic (Charlie Chaplin)

Dosa (Bloody Marvelous)

And if you reeeealllly like gin, here’s a great book to pick up or perhaps gift.

Top 5 Event Ideas

As you may have gathered by some of my past event posts, one of the things I love most about events is the ability to personalize so many things and truly make it your own.  Although, there is something to be said for still keeping some things simple, clean and elegant.

Here are my favorite event ideas of the week that include both simple elements with a bit of a fun, personal touch.

Bubbly BarI love this idea of having this bubbly bar on a simple black cloth with vibrant flowers as the focal point.  It would be perfect for a birthday party, anniversary or a NYE party. (photo via 100 Layer Cake)

rusti container centerpiecesI love using old tea or coffee tins as the container for the centerpieces.  Stacking it on top of your favorite books is also a great way to add the personal touch.  I could see this fitting in perfectly at an outdoor brunch. (photo via 100 Layer Cake).

Here are a couple more:

These table numbers are a creative way to involve guests seated for dinner at a wedding.

I love the idea of a hot chocolate bar to close out any evening event, especially when it gets chilly.
