Hemingway and Weekend Plans

big_hemingwayOver the Christmas holidays, Brent and I took the opportunity to fly to Florida and see family before our move from LA to the Bay. We took a couple days for ourselves and stayed down in the Keys.   After spending the night in Islamorada, we took the drive to Key West where I got to hang out only 90 miles from the motherland!  And of course, we visited some six-toed cats at the Hemingway House.  Hopefully that fun fact will come in handy if you happen to be in the Keys this weekend for the Hemingway Days Festival!  Make sure you bring your marlin fishing gear and high tolerance for rum cocktails.

This weekend we don’t have too much going on other than taking, Foxy, aka Silver Fox, aka my VW Tiguan to get her 20k service.  Exciting isn’t it?

Maybe I’ll also try and get to a yoga class in, since there will probably be a lot of room as thousands will be heading up to Tahoe for Wanderlust.

Here are some fun things happening around the Bay who had something a little more interesting in mind:

21st Annual Catalan Festival sounds like it won’t only have amazing wine and views as it’s taking place on a gorgeous Sonoma Vineyard, but will also have tasty Spanish bites.

I’ve always been a sucker for music in the park.  Check out the SF Symphony Annual Free Concert in Dolores Park this Sunday.

If you’re further down on the Peninsula, be sure to check out the 27th Annual Connoisseur’s Marketplace Festival  in Menlo Park.

Summer equals many things, but it especially equals Rose, in a glass.  The Midsummer Rose Party on Treasure Island is going on Sunday.  Only $10.  Go!  Maybe I should take my own advice…

Whatever you do, have a fabulous weekend!

Summer Solstice and Weekend Plans

Summer_solstice_stonehengeHappy First day of Summer!  I hope you all have amazing plans this weekend filled with lots of outdoor activities!  Which reminds me, Brent and I REALLY need to get a BBQ.  He cleaned our back porch and we now have room.  Hooray!

This weekend we don’t have too many set plans other than a dinner with friends at Piperade tomorrow night.  We might also try and get some pool time and drink a few of these in honor of the solstice.  A Sunday day trip over to Santa Cruz for a hike on the beach might be in order as well. This one looks fun and we can take Daisy!

Here are some other fun things happening around the Bay:

I swear we will make it to next year’s Sierra Nevada Music Festival.  I’ve been wanting to go FOREVER!

If you’re in the East Bay and in need of a little culture, check out the 10th Annual Berkeley World Music Festival.

Film of the Month:  Where the Wild Things Are at the Disney Museum.  And while you are there, you should check out the Down the Rabbit Hole exhibit.

Brent misses surfing in Florida and down in the (tad-bit) warmer So. Cal waters.  It might be too cold up here, but we can watch from the shore at the 19th Annual Surf City Classic in Santa Cruz

Last week I mentioned the SF Jazz Festival and now Stanford is kicking off their season with Herbie Hancock.

And here’s whats happening around the World:

Countries around the world are celebrating the Summer Solstice.  This morning, There was a particularly large celebration happening at Stonehenge.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Music Festivals and Weekend Plans

So sorry for the late post today everyone! It’s been one of those days.  So what’s everyone up to this weekend?

Tomorrow, I’ll be having brunch in the cute town of Burlingame with a couple of my girlfriends.  It’ll be nice to sit back, catch up and have a couple of mimosas. On Sunday, I’ll be working Commencement for Stanford University.  Have I mentioned I work for Stanford?  Seriously, it’s the best job ever.   I’m excited to see all those bright-eyed students accepting their diplomas ready to take on the world.

Happy Father’s Day to all those wonderful dads out there!

If you’re looking for something fun to do, or perhaps somewhere to take dear ol’ dad,  there’s lots going on in the bay this weekend.

We’re a few days into the SF Jazz Festival, but you have until the 23rd of this month to check it out.

If you’re out in the East Bay, be sure to check out the Martinez BBQ festival.  We hunt down BBQ every chance we get in our house.

The 2013 Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic is on Sunday. You have to be up pretty early, but I hear it’s quite the spectacle.

The 59th Annual North Beach Festival is this Sunday.  I love street festivals, so we might try and make it up here after Commencement.

We hardly pass up a free music festival, especially when in a great location like Stern Grove.  Don’t worry if you can’t make it this Sunday, it’ll be happening all summer long.

And finally, Summer always equals fun movie nights in the park.  I’m happy to see that also happens in Dolores Park.  This week’s pick is Indiana Jones.

And around the world:

Three major music festivals are happening this weekend!  If you find yourself in this corner of the world, or perhaps getting an early start on fun plans for next summer, make sure to check these out.

p.s.  My friend, Emily just told me that there will be free beer (for dads) at Steins in Mountain View for Father’s Day.  Brent and I will be drinking one for our dad’s there!

Dragon Boats and Weekend Plans

Yaaay It’s finally Friday! It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend in the Bay Area and I plan to enjoy every minute of it. I’m most excited for our plans in San Francisco on Saturday. Brent, my mom and I will be headed to 2nd Glass Wine Riot! I wasn’t aware of this until a friend mentioned it to me earlier this week and am I glad she did.  Basically it’s a room filled with 250 wines and you have 4 hours to try them.  You can choose to taste by wine type or by “touring the world.”  This girl loves to travel, so there’s no question as to how I’ll be conducting my tasting.

Here are few other things going on around the Bay this weekend.

Chipotle Cultivate Festival is happening on Saturday in Golden Gate Park. We might need to make a stop here on our way out, since I heard Big Gay Ice Cream will have a truck here!!  Seriously it’s the best ice cream I’ve ever had in my entire life and they only have a shop in NYC.

43rd Annual Oak Park Fair in Berkeley is on Saturday and Sunday, which should have a little something for everyone in the family.

If you prefer wine events in wine country, check out Passport to Pino.

Redford, the city’s newest bar is having its grand opening today!  I love bars with fun themes and an atmosphere like this one.

And around the world: The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival.  This is actually taking place on June 12th, but it’s too cool not to post.  I’d love to one day visit Hong Kong during the fest.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sand Sculptures and Weekend Plans

Sand Sculpture

I’m so excited for Memorial Day Weekend and it looks like towns across the Bay are getting ready too!   One of my favorite things about summer, and this gateway into summer holiday, is the abundance of festivals!  Although Brent and I will be busy taking care of things we haven’t had the chance to do with both of our busy work schedules, we’re hoping to make it to Half Moon Bay or perhaps Sonoma for a nice afternoon out on Sunday or Monday.  Enjoy the long weekend and see you Tuesday!

Here are a few things going on around the bay this weekend.

To keep on the carnaval train, San Francisco is hosting their 35th Annual Carnaval this weekend in the Mission.

Marin Greek Festival is happening this Saturday and Sunday.  Opa!

Hungry?  Top 35 best food trucks from around the Bay will be serving their rendition of the taco at the 2nd annual San Jose Taco Festival.

For those who love a good music festival, here’s one happening in Santa Cruz.

And around the world:

Sand Sculpture Festival in Portugal.  That photo above from last year’s festival is amazing!

Karneval and weekend plans

Karneval 2013

My weekend is starting off with some exciting plans.  A few of my best gals and I have reservations at State Bird Provisions tonight.  Not only did my friend, Laura have to make these reservations 6 weeks ago, but she had to make them at 6am, exactly 6 weeks out.  I guess that’s how it goes when you wine and dine at the Best New Restaurant in the US. On Saturday, Brent and I are excited to finally check out the Palo Alto Farmers Market, which had it’s grand opening last weekend.  Later, we’ll head to a nice dinner with  some of our newest friends, a lovely couple that we’ve met since we moved up North.   Have a great weekend!

Here are a few other fun things going on around the Bay:

Napa Strawberry Festival with a wine and chocolate tasting portion too!

Spring Dog Festival.  I love that there is a festival totally geared toward my four-legged pup, Daisy.

Bay to Breakers is 102 years old on Sunday.

And around the world:

Berlin Karneval is this weekend!
